Phang Nga Bay

The province of Phang Nga is located in the southwestern part of Thailand on the Andaman Sea, there are many scenic spots including Surin Island National Marine Park and Sinelan Island National Marine Park – both are famous for diving, wonderful swimming and sport fishing. Khauyak – Lamru National Park is known for cliffs and forests, hills and beaches teeming with flora and fauna. Only make a trip to the islands during the winter months – the sea is too rough in the summer.

Especially beautiful scenery in Phang Nga Bay – karst (limestone) formations and islands seem to break out of the sea. This is where the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” was filmed. Take a boat tour, spend a whole day in the bay or camp for two or three days. There are wonderful semi-underwater caves to explore, such as the Painted Cave, which has many rock paintings. You can only get here by a small boat. Another interesting place is the Muslim fishing village of Panui, standing on stilts in the middle of a mangrove swamp.

Overnight on the island in Phang Nga, a small town surrounded by forested limestone cliffs. From here, you can head out to explore other sites, such as the cave at Wat Tham Suwangkhukha, a shrine with many Buddha images. In October there is an annual vegetarian festival, it is a time of purification for the locals. For 10 days there are solemn processions and performances end in frenzied fun.
