Chapaev House-Museum in Balakovo
Chapaev House Museum is one of the main attractions of the city of Balakovo in the Saratov region. The museum was founded in 1948 on the initiative of Chapaev’s associates and local residents. November 7, 1957 in the courtyard of the house-museum was installed bust of V. I. Chapaev. Balakovo is considered the second homeland of the famous chief of division of the Red Army, and Vasily Ivanovich was born in the village of Budaike, which is now part of the city limits of Cheboksary. Poor harvest, hunger and high mortality forced the parents of the future commander to move to the “bread land” Balakovo. The wooden house in which the Chapayev family lived from 1919 to 1922, restored and stands to this day on Chapayev Street, next to modern high-rise buildings.
