Zadonsky Nativity of the Virgin Monastery

Zadonsky Nativity of the Virgin Monastery is located in the Lipetsk region. It was founded in 1610 by two schema-monk elders of the Sretensky Monastery, Cyril and Gerasim, who arrived on the banks of the Don River with the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. In 1769 St. Tikhon moved here to rest, leaving the Voronezh cathedra. Zadonsky Monastery is called the Russian Jerusalem, and St. Tikhon is called the Russian Chrysostom. In the Zadonsky monastery a wooden ark is preserved, containing particles of relics of the most honored saints in Russia. The relics of 11 Zadonsk righteous saints today are in a marble tomb in the Vladimir Cathedral of the monastery.
