Volga-Kama State Natural Biosphere Reserve

Volzhsko-Kamsky Reserve is located on the left-bank terraces of the Volga River, on the territory of the Zelenodolsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan. The state biosphere reserve was established on April 13, 1960. It occupies an area of 100 km² and consists of two sections – Saralinsky and Raifsky. The fauna of the Volzhsko-Kamsky Reserve is striking in its diversity. There are 55 species of mammals on the territory of the reserve under protection, ranging from brown bear to stray cats and dogs. Nine species of birds are listed in the Red Book, and in general the reserve is home or transit point for 195 species of birds. The symbol of the Volga-Kama Reserve is the white-tailed eagle.
