Umm Salal Ali

Umm Salal Ali is an archaeological site located in Qatar, about 40 km north of Doha. It is the most famous and mysterious excavation site in the country. The ancient mounds and tumuli are believed to have been created in the 3rd millennium B.C. Scientists and archaeologists are still struggling unsuccessfully to answer the question of what they were created for. According to Islamic religious tradition, burials in the mounds are forbidden, so Umm Salal-Ali has nothing to do with Islam. There are even incredible hypotheses that the stone formations were the burial places of the legendary Atlanteans or Aryan tribes.
