U.S. Bank Tower

The U.S. Bank Tower is one of Los Angeles’ most famous skyscrapers, located in the city’s business district. Although the high-rise building is surrounded by other skyscrapers, it stands out with its light-colored facade and expressive shapes. With its beautiful oval cross-section and multi-stage architecture, the U.S. Bank Tower is considered one of the calling cards of Los Angeles. The original building is often featured in Hollywood movies and portrayed in computer games. It went by the name “Library Tower” until 2003, as it was built as part of the city’s city library improvement program.

Highlights

The skyscraper rises 310.3 meters and ranks as the eleventh tallest building in the United States. The US Bank Tower leads among local high-rises as well. In California, there is not a single building taller than it. In addition, this skyscraper is the tallest building ever built west of the city of Chicago.

In addition to its spectacular appearance, the skyscraper is particularly earthquake resistant. Los Angeles is built in an area of high seismic activity, with a high risk of earthquakes, so the architect-designer Henry Cobb and the construction contractor Pei Cobb Freed & Partners provided a large safety margin. Thanks to their efforts, the U.S. Bank Tower has a unique core structure that allows it to withstand earth tremors up to 8 on the Richter scale.

Inside the U.S. Bank Tower, there is a large business center that is only accessible by pass. There are no tours for tourists, so you can only admire the architectural landmark from the streets of Los Angeles.
