Saint Vincent

Saint Vincent Island is the largest part of the state of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The island is of volcanic origin. It is located in the Caribbean Sea, between the islands of St. Lucia and Bequia. St. Vincent has an area of 344 km². The island was first discovered by Christopher Columbus on January 22, 1498 – St. Vincent’s Day. The mountain ranges in the north of St. Vincent are formed by the slopes of the active Soufriere volcano. Tropical forests grow here. The area is cut by many mountain rivers, and lakes can also be seen on St. Vincent, including one that lies in the crater of Soufriere. The country’s largest city and its capital is Kingstown, set in a harbor on the southwestern tip of the island.
