Otočec Castle
Otočec Castle is a picturesque fortress built in Gothic-Renaissance style. Otočec is located 7 km east of Nowa Mesta. It has recently been converted into a luxury hotel. The four-towered castle sits on an island on the Krka River, which is connected to the shores by a wooden bridge. Although Otočec Castle is closed to the public, the hotel’s exquisite restaurant and café are open to those who do not live there. Near the castle is a golf course and the Struga equestrian center.
Rock festival “Rock Otocec”
Every year at the beginning of July, the three-day rock festival “Rock Otocec” (www.rock-otocec.com) takes place on the territory of the Otocec Castle, which is attended by about 8,000 people daily. Foreign stars such as Fun Lovin, Criminals and Asian Dub Foundation perform here, although recently the focus has been on bands from the republics of the former Yugoslavia.
