Miami Beach

Miami Beach is a resort connected to mainland Miami by causeways across Biscayne Bay. This is where the real vacation begins: 11 kilometers of sandy beaches lined with high-rise hotels and private residences. If your hotel has its own beachfront property, as is the case with the hotels around 46th Street, you can sunbathe there; if not, you can always find a way around it.

General Information

Miami Beach has the best beaches in the country: with white sand, warm aquamarine water, no worse than the Bahamas. Does your imagination conjure up images of art deco hotels, models on roller skates, well-groomed boys and rushing cars? That’s Ocean Drive (from 1st to 11th streets) with the beach primarily serving as a gathering place for important peacocks. The fusion of waves, sunshine and exhibitionist beauty is what has made South Beach (or, as it’s also known, SoBe) world famous.

.

In the evening, stroll down Espanola Way, a European street lined with restaurants and cafes. A few more blocks north and you’re on Lincoln Road (between Alton Rd and Washington Avenue), which at this time becomes a pedestrian alley where everyone can admire the stunning beauty and vibrancy of SoBe’s creations.

.

Several decades ago, these marvelous beaches almost disappeared due to soil erosion caused by unauthorized coastal development. In the late 1970s, the Army Corps of Engineers came to the rescue and dumped 10 million m³ of sand on the 91 m wide drained coastal strip.

Accommodation

Miami Beach is a hub of stylish boutique hotels in renovated Art Deco buildings. Room rates fluctuate wildly depending on the season. Plus, all the best spots become a pipe dream during spring break as prices quintuple. During the summer months, prices are at their lowest. Parking at the hotel will cost between $20 and $35 per night.
