Lenin’s Mausoleum
Lenin’s Mausoleum is a monument-tomb on Red Square, designed in the style of Soviet constructivism in the image of Egyptian pyramids by architect Shchusev. It was finished with the most expensive materials.
.General information
In Soviet history, the Mausoleum repeatedly served as a tribune for the country’s leaders, who viewed parades, demonstrations and other public events from it. Behind the Mausoleum is the Kremlin Cemetery: some of the burials under the monuments are visible from Red Square, while others are walled up in the Kremlin wall. Among them are not only the leaders of the country and CPSU figures: Stalin, Andropov, Chernenko, but also – scientists, cosmonauts, revolutionaries and other prominent people of the Soviet era.

The debate over whether Lenin should be given a human burial or not has existed for as long as almost any of us can remember. As of today, 56% of the Russian population is in favor of burying Lenin’s body, while 28% are against it. That is, only 16% of Russians do not care – that’s how reverent the attitude to this issue is in our country, everyone has his own opinion. By the way, Lenin lies at a level 3 meters below the ground, that is, “according to Christian tradition,” as his niece Olga Ulyanov says..History
In 1924, a wooden Mausoleum was built on Red Square, in front of the Kremlin wall by design, in which Vladimir Lenin was buried. This was done amid great popular grief at the passing of the leader. The construction of the very first Mausoleum had a practical purpose – to organize the flow of those wishing to look at the corpse, which was quite well preserved during the cold days of the planned funeral. In the end, the funeral never took place. The body was embalmed and continues to be so maintained by a special institute.
By 1930, the Mausoleum was rebuilt in stone, and underneath it, they say, actually created the very secret scientific center that is dedicated to the preservation of the mummy. According to most historians, all of this was initiated by Stalin, who already at that time intended to restore the historical paradigm by giving the people a tsar in the person of himself and a god in the person of Lenin..
