Khreshchatyk Street

Khreshchatyk is the main street of Kiev, stretching for 1225 meters. It starts from European Square, runs through Maidan Nezalezhnosti and ends at Bessarabskaya Square. Despite its small size – it is one of the smallest central streets in the world – it is known far beyond the borders of the Ukrainian capital. Khreshchatyk is associated not only with a large number of different stories and legends, but also with many significant socio-political events of Ukraine’s recent history.

  • In the times of Kievan Rus on the territory of the future Khreshchatyk there were hunting grounds. Hunting for small animals and birds was carried out with the help of special nets – perevis, so the very first and little-known name of the street was such – Perevizische.
  • In the world ranking of streets with the highest rent for retail space in 2010 Khreshchatyk took 48th place with an indicator of 2.4 thousand dollars per square meter.

How to get there

Literally one minute walk from Vokzalna Square is the stop “Central Railway Station”. At it, get on the bus number 24 or 114. You usually have to wait for them for a short time, no more than five minutes. After seven minutes you stop at the metro station “Khreshchatyk”. From it you walk 53 meters, it’s no more than two minutes, and you find yourself on the main street of the capital of Ukraine.
