Cradle Mountain

There are many hiking routes and trails here, from ten-minute walks through the rain forest to a three-hour route along the shores of Dove Lake and a challenging day’s climb to the top of the mountain. The fascinating route goes from Mount Cradle to Lake St. Clair, which is the deepest of the freshwater lakes in . It takes 5-6 days to cover the 80 km route, and there are nine refuges along the way where hikers can rest and enjoy the magnificent views. Here they will see wildflower meadows, relic pine forests, pandanus and deciduous beech trees, alpine streams, lakes and waterfalls. About 8,000 hikers pass along the trail each year, mostly coming from November through April, but despite the summer months, it can rain and even snow during this time.
