General information

The villages scattered in the terrain here and there are very distinctive and look unreal because of their traditional colorfulness and aesthetics. The first resorts here date back to ancient times, when Cyprus was still colonized by the British, and the friendly fairy-tale villages were visited by all the nobility. Many built villas here and it became a permanent resort for Egyptian King Farouk.

.

The villages of Troodos are connected by a narrow road, so donkeys with small carts for transporting goods are still the most popular means of transportation here. Each of the small villages is famous for some kind of handicraft. Each one specializes in its own craft or folk economy: some of them grow the most famous grapes, in Mutullas they bottle the healing mineral water and make homemade tubs, especially interesting for tourists, in Prodroomos you can taste the most delicious apples in the world. Platres is the most preferred place of settlement for tourists. There are many high class hotels here.

.

Of course, it is impossible to visit Troodos and not to visit the mythically famous Mount Olympus – the highest on the island and striking with its grandeur. Among the architectural monuments you should definitely visit the Monastery of Kykkos, which keeps an icon of the Virgin Mary from ancient times, the Church of Panayia tou Arak is protected by Unesco, its frescoes – an incomparable sight.

.

It can be noted that the mountain and forest routes on Troodos are taken seriously. Since many people come here to explore the unexplored and beautiful local nature, the main trails for travelers even have their own names: “Caledonian Trail”, “Artemis Trail”, “Atalanta Trail”, “Persephone Trail”, and at the beginning of each for unsophisticated tourists are brochures with guides so that they do not get lost.

.

Lovers of outdoor activities and hiking, as well as fans of ancient original cultures, Troodos will seem not only one of the many resorts, but also a truly inexhaustible source of beauty and knowledge.
