Highlights

The stanitsa is located on the Golubitskaya arrow – a hilly isthmus separating the Akhtanizovsky estuary and the Temryuksky bay of the Sea of Azov. Since the end of the XVIII century, the village grew around the farm of the Black Sea Cossack Grigory Golubitsky, who became famous in the battles of the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-1791. Grigory was in the first ranks of soldiers who stormed enemy fortresses, more than once went on sea voyages on the Cossack “seagulls”, bravely boarding enemy ships. For bravery and courage, Prince Potemkin made the Cossack into officers and endowed him with land on the Taman Peninsula.

.

Natural sights

On warm summer nights, the waters of the Temryuk Bay sometimes fluoresce. Already at sunset, the sea seems to be illuminated from within with a mysterious emerald glow and the surf is decorated with myriads of shimmering lights rising from the depths. Algae and microorganisms emit a marvelous light. They say that the glow of the sea can be seen from the portholes of airplanes flying over Taman and even from outer space. On such magical nights it is definitely worth organizing romantic baths, and on the video cameras of smartphones with high resolution you can shoot absolutely amazing shots.

.

In the estuaries opposite the mouth of the Kuban River and its many branches crossing Taman, the sea water is largely desalinized. A special ecosystem characterized by biodiversity has developed here. Casting fishing rods from a boat, experienced fishermen will be surprised to catch river fish from the sea: pike, bream, carp. Stepping into the sea a little farther from the shore, you can admire the flocks of smiling dolphins hunting for skittish mullet.

.

After strong storms in the waters of the Sea of Azov at the shores are formed long sandbanks, where you can swim and sunbathe. But one morning you will no longer see them: waves erode these islets for several days. By the way, after storms there are a lot of gobies near the shore. Catch fish for lunch is not difficult, and you can use not only a fishing rod, but also just a net net.

.

Within the village Golubitskaya is the namesake mud lake of about 500 by 200 meters. This is the crater of an old mud volcano. Its depth does not exceed one and a half meters, the bottom is dense, the slopes of the funnel are gentle. Tourists and locals take mud baths here. Doctors recommend these procedures to treat joints, skin rejuvenation.

.

In the area of Golubitskaya observed another natural phenomenon. Once every few years in the sea bay opposite the village there is an eruption of a mud volcano. At the same time on the coast are felt tremors of a local earthquake. Underground gases burst out of the seabed under high pressure, creating a fountain of liquid soil discharge. This pulp rises 30-50 meters into the air. A cone-shaped island grows at the eruption site. Waves gradually erode the clay formation, saturating the water with healing substances. The short-lived island disappears into the sea, but after 6-8 years the process repeats, and the shaky solid is reborn. However, scientists have not yet been able to predict the next eruption.

The most vivid impressions will leave a trip to the Lotus Valley. In the famous valley before you will open not a dry lowland, and the sea estuary with gentle hilly banks. The surface of the water is covered with large green leaves resembling malachite dishes with pearl-matte shine. It seems that one can step on them and walk from shore to shore. Above the magnificent green “sidewalk” rise stems with buds and lush blossoming flowers, some of them are the size of a soccer. Fragrant petals are colored with a palette of cream, pink, red shades. Lotus blooming lasts for 35-45 days, and this miracle happens, as if by order, just at the peak of the holiday season in Taman – from July to August. It is impossible to pluck rare flowers, they are listed in the Red Book. Don’t even try to break the taboo secretly: nature itself will punish you gently. A plucked lotus will sadly wilt in a few minutes, and your mood will be spoiled. Before your trip, don’t forget to charge your smartphone to take a wonderful photo shoot here.

.

Curiously, Indian lotuses have a hard time taking root in neighboring bays and irrigation canals. The fastidious plants require a special climate and water composition, low current, shallow depth of a warm body of water, loose silt saturated with certain minerals and covering the bottom. Hydrobiologists have repeatedly tried to create new lotus plantations here, but in a few years the plants died: young shoots were strangled by reeds and sedges. Only this estuary with its unique ecosystem turned out to be a suitable water body for lotuses. By the way, in our country to admire these magnificent flowers, growing freely in the wild, you can only on the Taman Peninsula, in the reserve near Astrakhan and in the Far East.

.
