Spaso-Prilutsky Dimitriyev Monastery

Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery is one of the largest and oldest monuments of Orthodox architecture of the Russian North. The monastery was founded in 1371, in the bend of the Vologda River, by Demetrius Prilutsky, a disciple of Sergius of Radonezh. The complex of monastery buildings has remained virtually unchanged since its foundation and is a cultural heritage site. Among the architectural monuments of the monastery are the 5-domed Spassky Cathedral and the Assumption Church, the oldest preserved wooden tent church in Russia. The relics of its founder rest in the monastery, and the masterpiece of Russian iconography, the hagiographic icon of Dimitriy Prilutsky by Dionisy, comes from the Spassky Cathedral. In 1993, the monastery, as part of the village of Priluki, entered the city limits of Vologda.
