Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Palace is the Versailles of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was once the summer residence of the Habsburgs. The baroque palace has 1400 rooms, so don’t expect to see everything. Many famous people have lived here, including Empress Maria Theresa and Napoleon Bonaparte. In the Hall of Mirrors, the six-year-old Mozart gave his first concert in 1762. Napoleon Bonaparte lived in the Napoleon Hall for six months. The sumptuous Grand Gallery, illuminated by 4,000 candles, hosted the Congress of Vienna in 1815. In 1830, the future Emperor Franz Joseph was born in this palace. His reign lasted 68 years – from 1848 to 1916. The monarch spent the last years of his life in Schoenbrunn. Not two years after his death, the palace was taken over by the Republic of Austria. Franz Joseph’s unfortunate brother, Maximilian, was born in 1832.He became Emperor of Mexico and was executed during the Mexican Revolution.

Schoenbrunn Palace is the second most popular place in Vienna, the first place is firmly occupied by the zoo, located in the park of the palace. Therefore, it is advised to get here early.
