Rupununi savannahs

The Rupununi savannahs occupy almost the entire southwestern part of Guyana, stretching from the ancient equatorial forests of the Guiana Plateau to the tropical jungles of the Amazon. The Rupununi savannahs boast a great diversity of natural life. It is home to some 250 species of birds, 18 of which are endemic, as well as jaguars and harpies. The stunningly beautiful savannahs, interspersed with forested hills, crisscrossed by many freshwater streams, teeming with termites and coastal groves, are considered the most extensive stretch of ancient steppe on the continent.
