Museum-apartment of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov
Rimsky-Korsakov Museum-Apartment is a memorial museum dedicated to the biography and creative path of the great Russian composer and the history of his family. The museum collections are housed in the historical center of St. Petersburg, in the house where the author of “Sadko” and “The Snow Maiden” spent the last 15 years of his life – from 1893 to 1908. Here Nikolai Andreyevich composed eleven operas, most of which have entered the treasury of world art.

The Rimsky-Korsakov House for many years served as one of the centers of cultural life in the city. Famous composers, performers and artists came here. After the establishment of Soviet power, the apartment was turned into communal housing for 50 years. However, thanks to Rimsky-Korsakov’s descendants, it was possible to preserve his personal belongings. In 1971, a museum was opened in the house.
.The permanent exposition of the museum-apartment of Rimsky-Korsakov includes personal belongings and manuscripts of the composer, as well as furniture, musical instruments and household items of the XIX century. They are housed in four rooms – a front room, a study, a dining room and a living room. In addition, the museum includes an exposition hall and a concert hall. Exhibitions and weekly concerts are held here, featuring professional musicians – opera singers and performers.

Guests of the museum can see the Becker grand piano, which was played by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov himself, as well as composers A. N. Scriabin, S. V. Rachmaninoff, A. K. Glazunov and I. F. Stravinsky. The museum exhibits an armchair in which the composer liked to sit, portraits of his relatives, cutlery and souvenirs that belonged to the Rimsky-Korsakov family..
For tourists, the doors of the museum-apartment are open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11.00 to 17.30. It can be viewed independently or as part of an excursion group. If desired, visitors can order an individual tour of the museum’s halls. Excursions lasting from 30 minutes to an hour and a half are conducted in Russian, English and French.
.Chess Courtyard
In front of the Rimsky-Korsakov Museum-Apartment is one of St. Petersburg’s attractions – the cozy Chess Court. This is an unusual children’s playground, which was decorated in 2008. It is made in the form of a chessboard painted in green and pink colors. The chess pieces are made of metal in human height and look like fairy tale characters.

The Rimsky-Korsakov Museum-Apartment is located at 28 Zagorodny Prospekt. In 6-10 minutes to the building is not difficult to walk from the metro stations “Zvenigorodskaya”, “Vladimirskaya” or “Dostoevskaya”. In addition, the museum can be reached by buses № 1M, 1MB, 3, 4M, 4MB, 8, 15 and shuttle buses № K-25, K-90, K-177 and K-258 – stop “Ulitsa Zvenigorodskaya.”
