Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi
Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi is a memorial complex on the tomb of poet and preacher Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, located in the city of Turkestan in the Turkestan Oblast of Kazakhstan. It is a huge stone building in the shape of a rectangle decorated with portals and domes, one of which is the largest brick dome in all of Central Asia (its height is 44 meters, diameter 22 meters). This is all the more important because the dome has been considered by Muslims since ancient times as a symbol of unity and hospitality. Thick stone walls keep the mausoleum pleasantly cool – the outer walls of the mausoleum are almost 2 m thick, the walls of the central hall are 3 m thick. The mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi consists of eight rooms of different character, which are grouped around the central, largest in the complex hall for tayzan: mausoleum, mosque, large and small palace halls, library and economic complex, which includes a well house, dining room, living and other rooms.
