Malevich Park

Malevich Park is a unique public space near Rublevo-Uspenskoye highway. The park occupies the territory between two Moscow suburbs – the village of Razdory and the village of Romashkovo near the famous Barvikha. The uniqueness of the park zone, which opened in December 2020, lies in its purpose: here in one area coexist exhibitions of modern art, places for sports and walks.

Man Sitting and Man Running

These two objects from the “People” series are the fruit of artist Igor Shelkovsky’s work. The series of public art exhibits, which are compositions of linear elements, the creator began to create in the early XXI century, and two of them have taken an honorable place in the park.

Igor Shelkovsky is a leading contemporary artist, representative of the followers of the Russian neo-formal art of the 60s-80s of the last century.

Waterfall

In fact, this is not quite a natural formation – a complex of two waterfalls, streams and fountains was created by specialists of the Basis architectural bureau. The idea was realized at the highest level: water cascades perfectly fit into the existing landscape. Those who do not know that waterfalls are man-made objects are sure that they have always been here.

There are also recreation areas, wooden piers and a viewing platform. Small architectural forms, such as benches, are also works of art.

Antique Head

Taking the image of Alexander the Great as a basis, the creator of this art object – Aristarkh Chernyshev – presented a sculpture with a flat face without any features, on which the infinite download icon is spinning. The artist as if offers each viewer to reproduce the necessary image himself. The head without a face lying on its side evokes different feelings – it is worth looking at it at least once.

“Private Sun” and “Private Moon”

Celestial luminaries transferred from the heights to the earth is a light art project by Leonid Tishkov, a postmodernist artist. “Private Sun” is a reality realization of René Magritte’s painting Le Banquet. “Private Moon” is another transfer of Magritte’s artwork into a spatial installation. Only in Malevich Park, Tishkov’s “crescent moon” does not hang in the branches of a tree, as it is shown in the original, but has taken its place in a boat. It is reflected in the water of the pond, forming the very real lunar path.

Interestingly, the “Private Moon” has traveled the world, visited even the Arctic and many European capitals, and is now a landmark in Malevich Park.

“Cube of Space”

This is another postmodernist project by Leonid Tishkov from a series of space installations. “Cube of Space” is a 3D incarnation of Malevich’s black square floating among branches.

“Vertical-Horizontal”

Skeptics compare the spatial web-like maze created by photographer and artist Francisco Infante-Arana, along with Nona Goryunova, to clotheslines strung between tree trunks. But in fact it is a thought-out composition: the authors created a kind of communication network for the trees so that they could exchange information.

“The Life of a Square”

“Life of a Square” was also created by Francisco Infante-Arana. In this work, he showed his vision of Malevich’s “Black Square” and gave the simple geometric form the property of transformation. This was achieved by breaking the square into several planes with a mirrored surface, and each visitor sees from their vantage point a completely new spatial form.

“Carl Johansson’s Reconstruction of Mechanical Self-Stress Structure”

Karl Johanson, an artist from Petrograd, presented peculiar tensegrity-style art objects in the post-revolutionary years. These are kinetic constructions formed from rods and cables that have a stable form and are called tension-bound or self-tensioned. These are the forms that Vyacheslav Koleychuk recreates – one of them has taken a place in Malevich Park.

“Encounter”

This is another spatial object, a surreal fruit of artist Alla Urban’s work. By combining hollow arcs and creating a construction of the “bowl-dome” type, the author presented the viewers with bright blue “eyes of the forest”, assembled from numerous triangular prisms and sparkling with unearthly blue light in the dense woody greenery.

“The Meeting”

“Colored Trees”

These are two three-dimensional trees assembled from aluminum slats. The peculiarity of the design is that each of the slats is connected to ten neighboring ones. Translucent metal trees are penetrated by the rays of the sun and shimmer with different colors.

.

The author of the project – artist, architect, mathematician Alexander Konstantinov – is no longer alive. His idea was realized according to the sketches that he had time to create, accompanied by precise instructions.

Stable Composition

This art object by Roman Ermakov “moved” to Malevich Park from Red Square. Then Muscovites and guests of the capital did not appreciate the creativity of the avant-gardist. But in Malevich Park this unusual sculpture occupies a worthy place and attracts the attention of numerous visitors to the public space.

.

Each of the art objects has a sign with explanations. Those who wish to learn even more are offered to download an audio tour, the link to which can be found by means of a QR code at the information stands.
