Les Bons Village

Les Bons is a small picturesque village located in the heart of Andorra. On its territory are preserved ancient ruins of an ancient castle, belonging, according to historians, to the Counts of Foix. Unfortunately, today in the village of Le Bons is becoming less and less ancient buildings, as they are replaced by modern buildings. However, the local villagers are trying to preserve the heritage of their ancestors, no matter what.

.

The real name of this place sounds like Sant Roma de les Bons. Unlike many modern corners of Andorra, the village is practically dotted with old buildings. One of the main elements of Le Bonce is the church of St. Roman of Caesarea, built in the 12th century. The temple is interesting for the presence of ancient paintings and icons depicting the faces of saints, apocalyptic visions of St. John.

.

In addition to the temple, we recommend visiting the ancient watchtower built in the 13th century, the irrigation canal, the water tower and the ruins of the castle built at the end of the 12th century. Another attraction of the village is the waterfall, which consists of a network of channels cut into the rock and a pool. This is the so-called bathing chamber of the Queen of the Moors. Groundwater was stored in the pool and then diverted through the canals to irrigate the fields and supply water to the lord’s house.

.

Please note that the village is only open for a detailed view in the summer season, and in winter the complex can only be admired from the outside. But Le Bons village is a worthy reason to visit Andorra not only during the popular winter ski season!
