Memorable places in and around Kabardinka

During the Great Patriotic War Kabardinka and the front line was separated by only 20 kilometers. The Black Sea coast was covered by brutal battles, in which more than 4 thousand local residents were killed. In memory of their feat, the War Memorial was erected on the central square of the resort village. It is located to the north of the bus station and the crossroads of Revolutsionnaya and Mira streets. Every year on May 9 near the memorial are crowded rallies, which are attended by relatives of the victims.

.

In one of the most difficult periods of the Great Patriotic War, to strengthen the firepower of the front, 3.5 km from Kabardinka, on the way to Novorossiysk, placed a fortified artillery battery. On the shore installed powerful ship guns and reinforced concrete pillboxes.

The location was well chosen, and the artillerymen under Captain Andrei Emmanuilovich Zubkov could control the entire water area of Tsemesskaya Bay. They kept the enemy ships under constant fire and prevented them from approaching the Novorossiysk piers. Fearless commander Zubkov even called the “dispatcher of the port.”

.

The Germans relentlessly bombed the battery, and airplanes with aerial bombs flew over the fortifications both day and night. A great many combat crews died here, and several times the guns themselves had to be changed. And when there was a brief respite, front-line artists came to the battery. Nowadays there is a memorial on the place where the artillerymen fought, near the highway “Don”. It consists of a ship cannon, the entrance to the artillery cellar, a pillbox and a military cemetery, where the fallen soldiers are buried.

.

In Kabardinka itself, on a prominent in the sea and precipitous Cape Doob established a monument in honor of those who died on the ship “Admiral Nakhimov”. The large passenger ship sank at night from August 31 to September 1, 1986. During the catastrophe about one third of all those who were on it were not saved, and 423 people drowned in the waters of the bay. The composition reminding about the tragedy was created a year after the incident. On the memorial you can see a clock, lifted from the seabed. They show the time when the ship began to sink. About 2 miles from the resort village, a black barrel is anchored in the waters of Tsemesskaya Bay. It marks the place of the disaster and is clearly visible from the cape in good weather.

The church, dedicated to one of the revered Christian saints – Panteleimon the Healer, appeared in the village in 1875, thanks to the efforts of the Greek Orthodox community. Its members came here five years earlier from Turkey and brought to Kabardinka an icon depicting the saint.

.

Unfortunately, the first building of the temple has not survived. In 1937, during the active anti-religious campaign, which was conducted by the Soviet government, it was completely destroyed. The church, which can be seen nowadays, was built in the 1990s. The ancient icon has been preserved, and today it is exhibited inside the church under glass. The church building is open daily for all comers – both believers and tourists. It holds services on Fridays, weekends and holidays.
