Hollywood Bowl Amphitheater

It is believed that no trip to Hollywood would be complete without a visit to the world famous Hollywood Bowl. Hollywood Bowl is an outdoor amphitheater that can hold 18,000 spectators at a time. This largest amphitheater in the United States is used primarily for musical performances and various productions.

The amphitheater is located at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountains a few blocks north of busy Hollywood Boulevard. For more than 70 years, the Hollywood Bowl has been an iconic arena that has hosted memorable concerts and public events: presidential speeches, grand rock concerts, operas, symphonies, and ballet performances. The main reasons for the popularity of this place are its excellent acoustics and atmospheric nature.

If you visit the deserted amphitheater during the day, it is unlikely to make a strong impression on you. To really appreciate it, you have to go to an evening concert. The difference in sensation is enormous! It is literally the difference between day and night. What could be better than sitting under a starry sky on a hot summer night and enjoying classical music.

There are tons of concerts at the Hollywood Bowl during the summer months. In particular, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra performs here from late to mid-September. Another guest of the amphitheater is the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra. During special concerts, fireworks are launched over the grounds. The cost of admission usually ranges from $1 to $100.

The Beatles performed at the Hollywood Bowl in 1964 and 1965, and subsequently recorded a live album, “The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl” which was released in 1977.The Hollywood Bowl stage has been the site of the annual Playboy Jazz Festival every year since 1979.

Hollywood Bowl was the venue where American singer and actress Cher gave the last two concerts of her “Living Proof: The Farewell Tour” on April 29 and April 30, 2005.

This stage also hosted the last two concerts of the band Genesis for their “Turn It On Again: The Tour” show on October 12 and 13, 2007.

  • Virtually all of the lower seats in the amphitheater provide excellent views of the stage, while views of the stage are objectively limited from the upper sections.
  • California nights are usually quite chilly, even in summer, so it is not unreasonable to bring a sweater to an evening concert.
  • In the mornings several times a week (in the summer) there are rehearsals on stage, which are free of charge. There is a tradition of having a picnic before the concert.
