Emine-Bair-Khosar Cave

Emine-Bair-Khosar Cave is located in the Crimea. It is famous for the fact that a mammoth skeleton was found here. The cave was discovered in the early 18th century. Its length is almost 1.5 kilometers. Emine-Bair-Khosar translates as “Well on the slope near the oak tree”, but today the oak tree does not grow here. In the cave there is a unique 16-meter long well, which comes to the surface, as well as 5 levels with calcite formations and stalactites. The halls of the uppermost level are located about 30 meters from the ground surface, the lower one – 180 meters. Travelers are primarily interested in viewing the skeleton of the mammoth and other prehistoric animals found in the cave Emine-Bair-Khosar, so it is often called Mammoth Cave. One kilometer away from Emine-Bair-Khosar is another beautiful cave – Marble Cave. Excursion programs in the area usually include visits to both attractions.
