Cape Roca

Cape Roca is the westernmost point of continental Europe. The nearest population center, Lisbon, is located 40 km away. The cape belongs to the Sintra-Cascais National Park. The height of the rock is 140 meters above the level of the Atlantic Ocean. Earlier it was called the Cape of Lisbon. It is a wonderful place to feel at the edge of the world, enjoy the sound of the waves and stunning scenery.

Useful information for tourists

The easiest way to get here is from the nearest cities – Lisbon and Sintra. Experienced tourists recommend combining a sightseeing trip to the Portuguese capital with a visit to Cape Roca. You will have to cover a short distance, so the journey by bus will take no more than half an hour. It’s best to arrive early in the morning to get a chance to enjoy nature to the full. From about 11 o’clock, crowds of tourists start to accumulate here, preventing you from experiencing all the splendor of the atmosphere. If you are driving your own car, be aware that parking lots are likely to be full in the afternoon.

Especially for travelers, a restaurant and souvenir store was opened near Cape Roca. So after your visit to the “edge of the world” you will have a great opportunity to taste the Portuguese national cuisine. Then be sure to visit the market stall where they sell certificates of stay at the Cape. After paying a fee of 15 euros, you will be given a certificate of visit to one of the most magnificent places in the world. It is allowed to write the names of several participants of the trip on one sheet of paper or receive the papers separately. There is a post office nearby – using its services you will have a unique opportunity to send a message to your family from the very edge of the world.
