Bicaz Gorge (Cheile Bicazului)
Bicaz Gorge is located in northeastern Romania, in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, in the judez of Neamţ and Harghita. The gorge connects the provinces of Moldova and Transylvania, being the deepest and longest in the country. Along the Bicaz Gorge there is an 8-kilometer serpentine with rocks on one side and a steep cliff on the other – it is the most extreme and impressive road in Romania. In this area you can see the red-winged stenolaz, an unusual bird that lives in the rocks, and the Bicaz River is home to trout. Not far from the gorge is the mysterious Red Lake.
