Feodorovsky Cathedral
Feodorovsky Cathedral was built in Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) in 1912 according to the project of architect V.A. Pokrovsky, who focused on the traditional forms of Old Russian architecture. The main shrine of the temple was a copy of the ancient miracle-working icon of the Mother of God Fyodorovskaya, famous for the fact that Mikhail Fyodorovich, the first tsar of the Romanov dynasty, prayed before it before giving his consent to ascend the throne. Since then, she has been considered the patroness of the House of Romanov.
General information
Fedorovsky Cathedral was intended for His Imperial Majesty’s own Consolidated Infantry Regiment and convoy, as well as the royal family and its immediate entourage. In addition to the upper church, consecrated in honor of the Fyodorovskaya icon, there is also a lower, basement, so-called “cave” church in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov. Closed and badly damaged under Soviet rule, the Fedorovsky Cathedral is now revived and active.
