History of the Theater of Satire

The new theater appeared in 1924 with the premiere production of “Moscow from a point of view”. At the very beginning, it did not stage classical plays – the theater repertoire consisted of parody reviews, as well as productions on political and everyday topics, which had a comedic form. The first four years the artistic director of the theater was Alexei Grigorievich Alekseev. The audience loved the plays “Calmly, I take off”, “Zaholustye”, “Mishka, Verti” and “Nationalization of Women”, because they touched on topics that worried everyone.

.

In the early 30s of the last century in the repertoire of the theater group began to prevail comedies on everyday themes. And in the 1950s a stage in the development of the theater was the staging of several plays by Vladimir Mayakovsky – “Klop”, “Bath” and “Mystery Buff”. There was a lot of humor and irony in these plays.

Since 1957, the head of the theater company was Valentin Pluchek. Before that, he had already worked for 7 years in the theater of satire as a director and staged several popular performances. The new artistic director was able to gather within the walls of the theater talented actors – Tatiana Peltzer, Vera Vasilieva, Olga Aroseva, Georgy Menglet and Anatoly Papanov. In the years when Pluchek led the theater, revealed the extraordinary talents of Andrei Mironov, Alexander Shirvindt, Mikhail Derzhavin, Boris Novikov and Roman Tkachuk.

In addition to Pluchek himself, the directors of the Theater of Satire were Evgeny Radomyslensky and Mark Zakharov. They took as a basis both modern plays and works written many years ago, such as plays by Beaumarchais, Gogol, Ostrovsky and Brecht.

In 2000, Alexander Anatolievich Shirvindt took over the management of the theater group. Since 2002, there has been a museum in the theater building, where old playbills, advertising booklets and photographs of the most popular theatrical performances are kept.
