Archaeological Museum-Reserve Tanais

Tanais is an open-air archaeological reserve-museum located 30 km west of Rostov-on-Don, on the outskirts of the farm Nedvigovka. Here back in the III century BC Greek traders founded a city, which later became the largest center of trade in the region. It was named Tanais after the flowing river (modern Don). The Tanais Museum displays collections of ancient ceramic amphorae and statuettes, tools and interior items. In the museum halls it is worth to examine the interior decoration of city houses, clothes of inhabitants and other interesting details. In addition to the excursion program, in Tanais everyone can take master classes in mining and weaving on ancient instruments, as well as learn to fight with ancient weapons.
