Pokrovskaya Svyato-Vvedenskaya Ostrovnaya Nunnery
Svyato-Vvedensky Monastery is a women’s monastery located on an island in the middle of Lake Vvedensky, 4 km from Pokrov, in the Petushinsky District of Vladimir Oblast. The monastery was founded in 1708 by the monks of the Antony Desert, Sergius and Timothy, who put here a wooden chapel and a cell. Today most of the island is occupied by the monastery and outbuildings wrapped in the crowns of trees. There are two churches on the monastery territory: the restored Nikolskaya Church and the 5-domed Vvedensky Church, which is yet to be restored. The monastery is famous for its frescoes and icons, among which is the fresco of St. Alexander Nevsky, who lifted up the eyes of the mountain. Another relic of the monastery are the relics of the elder Cleopa, a local saint buried here. At St. Vvedensky Monastery there is a shelter for street children “Ark”, where girls live and study. Pilgrims get to the island by one of the two bridges spanning the shore. In winter you can also walk on the ice – among the snowy white expanses of the landmark will be the red walls of the temple.
