Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá

The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá is an underground Catholic church in Colombia, built in the tunnels of a salt mine 200 meters underground. The site is located in the bowels of a halite rock, on the outskirts of the city of Sipaquira. The temple walls are 3/4 of salt. The cathedral is active, services are held here on Sundays, but it does not have its own bishop, accordingly, it is not considered full-fledged from the point of view of the Catholic Church. In 2007 the Salt Cathedral was recognized as the most important attraction of the country. The cathedral attracts both tourists and pilgrims.
