The breadth of the tourist area of Gornaya Shoria is impressive: from its southern point (Biyskaya Griva) to the northern (Tom River) – 170 km, and from the eastern (Abakanskiy Ridge) to the western (Salair Ridge) – 100 km!

History of the resort

In the 70s of last century, no one could have guessed that 30 years later Sheregesh would become known even outside Russia. In the village lived workers from the mine, where iron ore was extracted. The deposit was discovered by the Sheregeshev brothers, after whose surname the settlement was named. And then the ski resort began to be named the same way. Regulars of the sports complex with the easy hand of locals call it Gesh.

‘ Altai. The continental climate causes a significant difference in the average annual temperature, and the proximity to northern latitudes indicates a short summer season. The first snow falls in September, and by November a stable snow cover is formed, which can reach a height of 2-2.5 m (up to 4 m in some places) and lasts until the end of April – mid-May.

.

Summer in Sheregesh is moderately warm, with an average temperature of +20 °C. But there are truly sultry days with thirty-degree heat. Winter is harsh – in January-February thermometers can fall below -25 °C, but the weather is sunny and windless, although on some days there may be snowstorms, and in March you can sunbathe on the slopes.

From March to April in Sheregesh comes the velvet season – this is the period of the greatest influx of tourists. In the sun the air temperature during the day can reach +15 °C.

.

Interesting fact: experts say that the climatic conditions of Gornaya Shoria differ from the climate of the adjacent territories: only here falls unusually light snow – no other ski resort has such a thing.
