Shchurovo Gorodishche Museum

Museum “Shchurovo Gorodishche” in Suzdal is a unique place where you can plunge into the life of ancient Russia and learn about the traditions and culture of our ancestors. It occupies a relatively small territory – only one hectare, but thanks to the atmosphere reigning here and specially prepared thematic programs is considered one of the best options for family recreation. In the museum “Shchurovo Gorodishche” everyone will find something to his/her liking: exciting excursions, training in military skills, visiting a contact zoo and even participating in agricultural work. To distract yourself from the daily routine, there is nothing better than to try on the role of a peasant of the 10th century!

In the beginning there was a movie

“Shchurovo ancient settlement” appeared as a set for Pavel Lungin’s film “The Tsar”. The movie was filmed, and the village so harmoniously fit into the concept of the city-museum Suzdal, that they decided to leave everything as it was. Now several times a year festivals and historical reconstructions are held here, and on ordinary days families come here to relax and have fun. On the territory of the museum is fully recreated traditional village of the times of Kievan Rus: there is a blacksmith shop, armory, huts, dugouts, cattle pens with live goats and pigs, and even has a small vegetable garden.
