Pink Sands Beach
Pink Sands Beach is located on the east coast of Harbour Island. Its second name is Pink Sands Island. It is about 5 kilometers of fine powdery orange-pink colored sand. This gorgeous coastline is time and again listed as one of the Caribbean’s best beaches.

The pink color of the sand is due to the small, crushed particles of Foraminifera shells, which are single-celled organisms that live on the bottom of reefs, under rocks and in caves on the coastal ocean floor, and whose shells are colored bright pink or red. Also, the red color of the sand is given to the corals, which near the coast have red colors. As a result of storms and coastal waves Foraminifera shells and coral parts are thrown onto the shore, where they are broken into small pecks, which mixed with the sand, giving Pink Sands Beach such an unusual pinkish-red color.
