Pha That Luang

Pha That Luang is a Buddhist religious structure that is the most important architectural monument and national symbol of Laos. The great stupa is depicted on the national emblem of the country. Pha Thathluang rises 4 km northeast of the center of the capital Vientiane. Archaeological excavations are underway here, and all discovered statues and other artifacts are placed in an enclosed gallery around the perimeter of the temple. The square in front of Pha Thathluang regularly hosts festivities, ceremonies, and athletes’ competitions.
