Museum of Wooden Architecture in Suzdal

The Museum of Wooden Architecture in Suzdal is a historical complex that recreates a traditional village of the middle part of Russia. This is a place where you can travel back in time: visit the houses of middle-class villagers, prosperous peasants and merchants, see churches built without a single nail, and even explore from the inside how the windmill is organized. The whole family comes to the Museum of Wooden Architecture, as here you can combine a fascinating vacation with interesting excursions. Huts, churches, farm buildings – all of this as if descended from the pages of books on the history of our country in the 17-19 centuries.

What to see

A church built without a single nail

In summer, the Museum of Wooden Architecture in Suzdal turns into a venue for festivals and celebrations. They are attended by honored folklore groups and young talents. One of the most unusual and original annual events is the Cucumber Festival. Everyone, from small to large, will find entertainment to their liking. Various contests are organized for children, and master classes will be interesting for older visitors. For example, here you can learn to weave lapti, make dishes from clay, weave cloth. Particularly popular is deaf (not through) wood carving, which is done… with an axe. With the help of this seemingly bulky tool, subtle patterns were created, which can still be seen in many homes, especially those of the wealthy class. In addition, in souvenir shops you can buy gifts to remember. In addition to the usual for everyone matryoshka dolls and similar trifles can be found and more interesting options, such as cucumber jam.
