Montreal Botanical Gardens (Jardin botanique de Montréal)

Montreal Botanical Garden is a wonderful green oasis containing approximately 22,000 species of plants from around the world, carefully cared for to protect them from the harsh Quebec climate. From May through October, you can tour the garden on a miniature railroad. Most notable here are the greenhouses with magnificent orchids and cacti, and the arboretum, which features exquisite Japanese bonsais. The local Insectarium (open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in winter, until 6 p.m. in summer, and until 9 p.m. in fall), which houses more than 160,000 species of insects, also deserves attention.
