Mogochino village

Mogochino is a village on the right bank of the Ob River in Molchanovsky District, Tomsk Oblast. The village of Mogochino was founded in 1726. It originally bore the name “Mogochinskie yurty” and was a Selkup settlement. The main local attraction is the St. Nicholas Nunnery. The nunnery was founded in 1989. Construction was carried out solely on the donations of benefactors. The very fact of the appearance of such a mesmerizing large-scale monastery in the hinterland is largely attributed to the feat of the innocently exiled in the village during the repressions. Around the monastery, since its formation, there has been a settlement resembling an Orthodox community, in which volunteer churchmen live. Hundreds of pilgrims from all over Russia come to Mogochino every year.
