Mencendorfa House
Mencendorfa House is a branch of the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation. The building is located at 18 Grecinieku Street. Today’s architectural monument was originally an ordinary residential house, where the second oldest pharmacy in the city worked. According to legend, it was here that Riga pharmacist Abraham Kunze first prepared the legendary Riga Balm in 1762. In 1884 the house was purchased by merchant August Menzendorf. Until 1939, the building was inhabited by the Menzendorf family, after whom the house was named. Now the museum familiarizes visitors with the traditions of everyday culture of a wealthy citizen of Riga. In the Mentzendorf House it is interesting to see the unique paintings of ceilings and walls of the XVII-XVIII centuries.
