Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Marina Bay is a luxury hotel and casino on the shores of Marina Bay in Singapore. Known for its rooftop pool and panoramic views of the whole of Singapore.

The hotel cost S$5 million to erect. This is the most expensive project of the American corporation “Las Vegas Sands”, specializing in the construction of casinos and resorts. The mega complex has everything for recreation and entertainment, including a casino, a luxury hotel, a theater and restaurants that employ extra-class chefs. The architect for the project is Moshe Safdie, who he says was inspired by a deck of cards when building it. The hotel’s design has been approved by feng shui masters.

One of the many “marvelous inventions” at the Marina Bay Hotel is the 200-meter-high Sands Sky Park, a unique architectural creation that crowns the hotel’s three towers. You’ll find yourself in a perfectly manicured 1.2 hectare tropical park with an observation deck and a huge swimming pool – all housed in three towers! The views from here are spectacular.

There is also the very interesting Museum of Art and Science (tel: 6688-88-26; open: daily 10.00-22.00; entrance fee), a huge lotus-shaped building. Visitors to the museum will see an exhibit on science, art, media, technology, design, and architecture.

Another masterpiece of engineering is the world’s first double helix bridge, allowing pedestrians to cross from Marina Bay Sands to the other side of the bay where luxury hotels have been built.

By the water is another local wonder, the Singapore Flyer (tel: 6734-88-29; www.singaporeflyer.com; open daily 8.30-22.30; entrance fee), the world’s largest Ferris wheel (165m high). Half an hour, during which it makes a full revolution, will give you a real pleasure, including a bird’s-eye view of the city. Next to the wheel is a 1960s-style street lined with countless ‘themed’ cafes and restaurants, attracting tourists and locals alike. From here you can walk to Singapore’s Formula One circuit, which hosts an annual night race in September. Nearby is Suntec City, a business and shopping complex known for its colossal Fountain of Wealth.
