Ancient city of Lixus
Lixus is an ancient city in Morocco, a picturesque place with the ruins of a Roman outpost. The city sits on a hill and is surrounded by forests, offering views of the Wadi Luccus River meandering through the valley and the ocean.
General Information
Settled by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC, later an important Carthaginian city, Lixus is a remarkably picturesque sight thanks to the ruins of ancient buildings and nature. The city is almost unexplored and has yet to be excavated.

The ruins of an amphitheater dating back to the first century, which could accommodate several hundred people, are preserved in Lixus. Behind the theater are the thermae with stunning mosaics that are well preserved, although local children scatter the pebbles of the mosaics. Unfortunately, one of the victims of the devastation was the face of Neptune, god of the sea, in the center of one of the largest and most beautiful mosaic inserts.
.In the center of Lixus is a Christian basilica. Although it is not architecturally spectacular, it is in pretty good condition considering its age.
