‘ Lake Ladoga and the Gulf of Finland. It is an amazing object, standing out, first of all, by its location. There are no analogs of the lake in Russia in terms of geography. It is part of the lake and river system of the Vuoksa River, which is a continuation of the Finnish Lake Saimaa and flows into the famous Lake Ladoga – the second largest in the Russian Federation.

In terms of size, Vuoksa is the largest lake not only on the Karelian Isthmus, but in the entire lake-river system.

As can be seen from the table, the depth of Lake Vuoksa is uneven, but the average value of the reservoir belongs to shallow waters.

The bottom has depressions of quite different sizes. It is covered with gray and brown silt, partly with stones.

Lake Vuoksa includes four pleats – wide parts with the most outstanding depth. The shallowest in depth is considered Priozersky, and the deepest – Krotovsky. In addition, the latter occupies the longest territory of the reservoir.

History of Lake Vuoksa

How to get there

Tourists need to get to Priozersk, the town that is closest to Lake Vuoksa. To this end, you can use:

  • car. To do this is easiest from St. Petersburg, choosing the highway called “Sortavala”. The length of the journey is 150 kilometers;
  • by train. The desired direction is “St. Petersburg – Kostomuksha”. However, transportation is available only on Wednesday, Friday and weekends;
  • by electric train. To travel, you need to clarify the schedule in advance, and also choose the point of departure: the Finnish railway station or metro station “Devyatkino”;
  • by bus. In this case, you will also have to choose between two departure points. Bus № 960 takes passengers to Priozersk from the station “Parnas”, № 807, 859 – from metro station “Devyatkino.”
