Highlights

The Huang He River is 5,464 kilometers long. It ranks second only to the Yangtze (6,307 kilometers) in both China and all of Asia. Known as the Yellow River because of the ochre color of its muddy waters, the Huanghe flows through the heart of China.

On its way, the riverbed crosses two vast autonomous regions and seven provinces of the country. But in terms of drainage capacity, the Yellow River is not even among the top 100 largest rivers on the planet.

The Huang He cuts through the country’s most densely populated historical regions. In its basin stand the oldest cities of China – Baotou, Taiyuan, Xi’an, Zhengzhou, Jinan with well-preserved architectural monuments, interesting museums and art galleries.

Travelers are attracted by the varied landscapes along the banks of the Huang He, and the panoramas in the Henan region are particularly impressive. Travelers will remember visiting Binling Grottoes in Liujia Gorge and Maizi Caves in Tianshui, and visiting ancient pagodas built on the slopes of the coastal mountains.

An incredible experience of touching the history of ancient China will be a trip to the Great Wall of China, originating on the banks of the Huang He. A trip to the tomb of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi in Shaanxi Province will also be memorable – for 2300 years it has been guarded by hundreds of silent terracotta warriors. This mausoleum, like many other historical monuments in China, is included in the lists of Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
