Granada Cathedral (Catedral de Granada)
The Cathedral of Granada was built on the site of the ruined Grand Mosque, the remains of which, La Madrasa, are opposite the Capilla Real. It was once a 14th-century Islamic madrasa, then rebuilt in Baroque style and now part of the University of Granada (it does, however, retain a remarkable prayer hall). You can come here to admire the magnificent stucco work. Another relic tucked behind the Calle de los Reyes Catholicos is the Corral del Carbon, an unusually austere building with a courtyard that served as a warehouse and inn for merchants. Between here and the cathedral is the Alcaicería, an ancient Arab market completely rebuilt after a fire. There are many expensive souvenirs here.
