Museo Casa Ernest Hemingway
The Ernest Hemingway House Museum is located in Havana’s suburban neighborhood of San Francisco de Paula. It is the only home the writer owned outside the United States, where he lived intermittently for about 20 years and worked on many of his works, including the novel For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea. The two-story building is nestled in a large garden in the shade of trees. The organizers of the museum tried not to change anything in the atmosphere of the house and kept all the personal belongings of the writer, a collection of hunting weapons, trophies, paintings, photographs, about 9 000 books in 33 languages, archival documents and manuscripts. Among the museum’s 22,000 items are a radio and hundreds of Hemingway-owned gramophone records. In the park, near the swimming pool, there are 4 stone pedestals under which the writer’s hunting dogs rest. In a separate pavilion, Hemingway’s boat “Pilar” is installed.
