Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland, one of the world’s largest parks, is located on the outskirts of Tokyo in Chiba Prefecture. Nearby are the DisneySea park and five hotels built especially for families with children.

.

A sea of adventures and unforgettable sensations awaits you here! You can ride through the mountains on an old steam train or for a while become a passenger of the American steamship of the time of Tom Sawyer, to see almost real pirates or fly into space. If you like exoticism, you will not refuse yourself the pleasure to go on a dangerous journey through the African jungle or visit the mysterious Cinderella Castle, and at the same time be photographed in the arms of Winnie the Pooh or Mickey Mouse. In addition, you will be pleasantly surprised by the perfect cleanliness of the park, alertness and politeness of the staff.

History

Work on Tokyo Bay began in December 1979 and was completed in April 1983, and Tokyo Disneyland welcomed its first visitors on the 15th of that month.

Already in the first year of Tokyo Disneyland the number of visitors exceeded 10 million. And the flow of those wishing to plunge into the joyful, exciting atmosphere of the magical Disney fairy tale does not dry up, and to this day. By now 300 million people have visited the park, which is more than twice the size of the total population of Japan (the park is visited by up to 100 thousand people a day). There is nothing to be surprised about, because every year about 10 billion yen is spent on updating Disneyland attractions.

.

In September 2001, DisneySea Park was added to Tokyo Disneyland. It is full of the same crazy rides, it is populated by characters from the same Disney cartoons. But its main difference is the sea theme, based on the exploits of Sinbad the sailor, Captain Nemo, Indiana Jones. Here you can meet pirates and mermaids, as well as ride on water slides and Venetian gondolas or go scuba diving.

Sectors of Tokyo Disneyland

World Bazaar

“World Bazaar” is actually the same main street leading to Cinderella Castle as Disney World. The main shopping area of the park, World Bazaar consists of two streets – Main Street, which connects the park entrance and Cinderella Castle, and perpendicular to it, Center Street, which leads to Adventureland. A giant awning stretches over the entire area, created in the spirit of American cities of the early last century, to protect Disneyland guests from the rain.

.

Adventureland

Adventureland consists of two zones – one of them resembles the old New Orleans, the other one reproduces the tropical jungle. Among the main attractions are the famous “Pirates of the Caribbean”, the Jungle Boat Cruise or the Tiki Room with Polynesian gods.

.

Western Land

.

It’s the Wild West in the middle of Tokyo Disneyland. Landscapes of the American West with a man-made river on which stands Mark Twain’s three-deck steamboat. In the middle of the river is Tom Sawyer’s Island, which can be accessed on a wooden raft. Of course, not without the classic roller coaster Big Thunder Mountain, where the lightning fast train is stylized to resemble those that ran in the days of the Wild West.

.

Fantasyland

The entrance to Fantasyland is the famous Cinderella’s Castle, and this part of the park itself is dedicated to attractions for fans of Disney cartoons – there’s Peter Pan’s Flight, the ‘it’s a small world’ puppet ride, the Dumbo the flying elephant ride, and some other equally interesting ones.

Futureland

This part of Disneyland is dedicated to more futuristic and technological rides like Star Tours or Space Mountain

Multown

.

Multown will especially appeal to all fans of the movie “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” who probably wouldn’t mind riding around Multown in the legendary rabbit’s car, which spins like crazy.

.

Critter Country

The smallest part of Disneyland devoted to essentially one attraction, Splash Mountain is a crazy log boat ride amidst the scenery of the American South and strange creatures.

.

Tokyo DisneySea

The theme park, which opened in September 2001, has already passed the 10 million visitor mark three hundred days after that date, which should not be surprising, as the park’s attractions are more spectacular and large in scale, attracting mostly older audiences than the classic Disneyland. It is also worth noting that this is basically the most expensive theme park in the world – 4 billion dollars were spent on its construction. In total, the park consists of several ports – the Mediterranean Port, from which the others begin: the American Port, Lost River Delta, Port of Discovery, Mermaid Lagoon, Arabian Shore, and Mysterious Island.

.

Mediterranean Harbor

Mediterranean Port resembles a typical medieval Italian port, although the gondolas floating on the water evoke strong associations with Venice. Two paths diverge from the V-shaped port to other parts of the park. There is also a real hotel, whose design is a kind of collage of Venetian houses. Here you can explore the medieval fortress and the galleon, as well as admire the colorful 25-minute show that takes place in the port. The night show “Be Magical!” is particularly beautiful, with special barges, fountains and pyrotechnics.

.

Mysterious Island

Mysterious Island is centered around a giant volcano, and the very plots of this part of the park naturally reference Jules Verne’s famous novels. The most popular attractions are named exactly like the books – “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”. Architecturally, everything here is done in the Victorian style.

.

Everyone remembers the famous Disney cartoon “The Little Mermaid,” right? This part of the park, created as King Triton’s palace, is where she resides. Perhaps the most kid-friendly DisneySea attractions are centered here.

.

Arabian Shores

This “port” is based on another legendary Disney cartoon, Aladdin. Also in this exotic place you can see many references to the fairy tales of “One Thousand and One Nights”, and one of the most popular attractions was inspired by the stories about Sinbab and embodied technically exactly as good as “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

.

Lost River Delta

At the end of the park is a “port” called Lost River Delta, centered around the ruins of the Aztec pyramid, with rides based on the Indiana Jones adventure films.

Point Discovery

This port is often referred to as the “marina of the future” or compared to Tomorrowland. The most modern technologies have been used in the creation of attractions here, so the sensations are truly exciting. Among the rides are the large-scale stimulator StormRider and Aquatopia.

.

American Harbor

Here you can see what northeastern American ports looked like in the early 20th century. There are a total of two equally interesting areas in this part of the park, one of which simulates the port of New York City. Especially impressive is the large passenger ship SS Columbia, where various events and shows are often held. American Harbor and Point Discovery are connected by an elevated electric railroad.

.

Disneyland performances and parades

Various performances, concerts, and shows featuring all the Disney cartoon characters are held at each park in Tokyo’s entertainment complex. And on holidays such as Christmas and New Year’s Eve, colorful and unusual processions are organized around the city. This spectacle, striking in its colorfulness and scale, fascinates both adults and children. Particularly impressive are the evening parades, which are decorated with thousands of colorful burning lights.

.

And at night Disneyland hosts a fireworks show. Under the volleys of spectacular fireworks there is live music performed by an entire orchestra. This creates an incredibly festive atmosphere.

.

Tourists

It is worth coming to the holiday park for at least a couple of days, and it is better to stay longer to see everything without rushing. There is a cute monorail train running around the park, which blends in very seamlessly with the surroundings. The train only makes 4 stops: at Disneyland, DisneySea, and near two hotels. There are lockers at each station where you can leave bulky bags before going to the park.

.

How to get there

Getting from Tokyo to Tokyo Disney Resort Station is easy, by bus from Tokyo Station (35 minutes away), which can be reached by subway, or by taking the JR East trains of the Keiyō and Musashino lines.

.

Opening hours

Tokyo Disneyland’s opening hours vary by month. In August, the park is open from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. In March-April from 9 to 22 on weekdays and 8:30 to 22 on weekends, etc.

.

Cost

The cost of an admission ticket, called a passport at Disneyland, for one day is 7,400 yen for those 18 and older, 6,400 yen for teens 12 to 17, 6,700 yen for seniors, and 4,800 yen for children 4 to 11. For children 3 years old and under, admission is free. This passport includes all Disneyland attractions, meaning you do not need to pay separately for each attraction. You can also purchase a two-day, three-day, four-day and annual passport. You can purchase an annual passport for Tokyo Disneyland only, Tokyo DisneySea only, or both parks separately. The annual passport, which allows access to both parks, costs 8,000 yen for ages 12 and up, 59,000 yen for ages 60 and up, and 53,000 yen for children ages 4 to 11.
