Devín Castle
Devín Castle stands on a steep cliff, where the Morava River flows into the Danube. Today it remains a ruin and stone towers, but this does not prevent it from being one of the symbols of Slovakia and a popular tourist destination.

General Information
Devin Castle are located 8 km from the center of Bratislava and at an altitude of 212 meters. The Romans, as earlier Celts, appreciating the advantage of the strategic location of this place, once founded a fortress here.
.
Slavic settlements appeared here only a few centuries later. By decree of one of the princes, a town was built on the ruins of the Roman fortress, the name of which, Devin, is first mentioned in the annals of 864.
.
During its long existence, the castle changed owners several times, gradually becoming a mighty fortress. But like many military installations, Devin lost its strategic value and gradually began to be impoverished. The castle was finally resolved by Napoleon’s troops. In the first half of the 19th century, during the rapid flourishing of Slovak nationalism, Devin was revived. It was made a point of patriotic pilgrimages.
. But the castle was not always open to visitors. During the times of Soviet rule in Slovakia, excursions here were undesirable. The fact is that the castle is too close to the Austrian border and one Slovak flew to it by hang-glider, jumping off the wall..Today, Devin Castle is once again popular for country walks, as it was restored a few years ago. The remains of the Roman fortress and the historical exposition in the reconstructed palace wing attract the most attention of tourists. At the foot of the castle there is a wine village with the same name, where several restaurants, cellars and beer halls are open.
