Isla Culebra

Isla Culebra is an archipelago in eastern Puerto Rico consisting of a large island and twenty-three small islands. There are no rivers or streams on the islands of the archipelago. Fresh water is brought to the island from Vieques. In Spanish, Culebra means “Island of the Snake.”

General information

The island was discovered in 1493 by Christopher Columbus and at that time it was inhabited by the Taino Indians and at the same time used by pirates, as a refuge for more than three centuries. The island of Culebra is home to about two thousand locals. The main town of this island is the town of Devey. There are numerous beaches on the island, among which stand out: Playas Rezaca Beach, the snow-white Flamenco Beach, the beautiful Playas Zoni Beach and Playas Brava, which were founded in 1909. Dive centers are organized for diving enthusiasts.Also among the attractions are the Culebra National Park, where you can see a large number of birds and turtles that are protected and protected by the island.
