.History
The first performances of circus artists in Yaroslavl were organized by Italian entrepreneur Rudolf Gwerra in 1850. Performances for the general public were given only in summer, the arena was located in a canvas pavilion on Streletsky Boulevard. In the 80s of the XIX century, the citizens were entertained in the circus of a talented animal trainer Antonio Bezano, who built a wooden building on Sennaya Square (nowadays – Labor Square) for spectacular shows. Circus troupes Baidoni and Truzzi toured here, Russian artists Nikitin and other stars of the arena performed here.
.
In 1937, a beautiful building of the State Circus appeared in Yaroslavl. Unfortunately, it did not last long, during the battles of the Great Patriotic War the structure was destroyed. In the post-war years for circus performances on Labor Square were arranged temporary halls. Famous artists – animal trainer Yuri Durov, clown Oleg Popov, magician Igor Kio – demonstrated their art here.
.
The current circus building was erected in 1963. The structure was not characterized by special elegance. It was built according to a standard project, during the period of struggle against architectural excesses, which implied a minimum of decoration and maximum functionality. But in the new millennium, the facades and interiors of the circus acquired a different look.
.Modern Circus
In 2011, the circus building was thoroughly renovated and modern stage equipment was installed in the technical rooms. The opening of the renovated circus in Yaroslavl was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of the city. After the renovation, the hall has acquired remarkable acoustic properties, and now it is often used for dance shows and concerts of pop artists.
.
Many popular circus programs have been running on the arena for years, the dizzying stunts of the performers are honed to perfection. For example, for 14 years the colorful performance “Treasure Island” has been gathering full houses. On the arena turned into a pool with an island, an enchanting spectacle unfolds with performances of ballet dancers, laser shows and colorful jets of fountains. During the performance about 140 tons of water are used, for the comfort of actors and animals it is heated to + 33 ° C.
.
Among the circus premieres – the performance “Giants of Africa”, here perform seven-meter giraffe and a huge rhinoceros accompanied by other exotic animals of the Black Continent, on ropes turned into tropical jungle vines, jugglers balance on gyroscuters.
