Chukchi Sea is a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean, located between Chukotka and Alaska. In the west, the Longa Strait connects it to the East Siberian Sea, and in the south, the Bering Strait connects it to the Bering Sea of the Pacific Ocean.

General information

The Chukchi Sea has an area of 595,000 km². 56% of the bottom area is occupied by depths of less than 50 meters. The greatest depth is 1256 m in the north. Water temperature is from 4 to 12 °C in summer and from -1.6 to -1.8 °C in winter. Bays: Kolyuchinskaya Bay, Kotsebu Bay. From October-November to May-June the sea is covered with ice. The route of the Northern Sea Route runs along the Chukchi Sea.
